- Think of other words (synonyms) for the key concepts of your topic
BOOLEAN SEARCHING:
- Using AND between search words so that the search results have all the concepts (HPV AND Sudan)
- Using OR between words that can describe a concept so that the search results will include any of the words for a concept (Example Sudan OR Africa)
SEARCH SYMBOLS:
- * --> searches for different forms of a word teen* will also find teens, teenager
- "phrase" --> search for exact phrase
SORTING features to sort search results by RELEVANCE and DATE (Newest to Oldest)
LIMITER features to select a specific DATE RANGE, SUBJECT, and/or PUBLICATION TYPE
SUBJECT TERMS and/or CONTROLLED VOCABULARY:
- Specific subject terms and/or controlled vocabulary can be assigned to an article so that a researcher can use the subject terms and/or controlled vocabulary to find articles.
- For example: MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) is the NLM controlled vocabulary thesaurus used for indexing articles for PubMed
